Data & Analytics at The Barbarian Group

We are at an exciting moment in how we approach data.  The analytics group at Barbarian exists as an extension of the Audience Intelligence department, whose mission is to prove and increase the agency’s return on creativity

The department is rapidly rolling out new capabilities across the marketing analytics spectrum and is looking to further distinguish our offering from traditional agency analytics practices.  We do this by seizing upon powerful new data collection and processing technologies while working in close partnership with the strategy team to identify opportunities to apply this information. 

Your Role

The Analytics Manager will report to the Director of Analytics and be capable of leading client’s data initiatives from measurement planning through data collection, report generation, and client presentation.  He or she will be the primary resource for tracking implementation expertise, as well as a strategic thinker capable of developing data-driven cases for campaign optimizations and advising on issues related to program design and channel strategy.

We are not looking for someone who is interested in data for data’s sake. The person we are looking for will get excited about how data can help us provoke more and bigger reactions, more consistently, among the right groups of peoples, in order to help our clients and our own business grow.

Responsibilities

  • Lead analytics for key CPG client across all paid, owned, and earned digital channels.  This includes developing and implementing measurement plans in alignment with client business and marketing goals, assessing campaign performance, generating custom and automated reports, and bringing forward consumer insights.
  • Design and manage testing strategy on key consumer electronics client.  This includes A/B and multivariate testing of assets including copy, product images, forms and web design.
  • Develop standardized data collection and implementation processes to be carried out across all clients with the support of junior analysts and The Barbarian Group’s technology department.
  • Manage and train junior team members in the fundamentals and best practices of data collection, analysis, and insight generation.
  • Assist the Director of Analytics in supporting new business, administering vendor relationships, evangelizing capabilities internally, recruiting new team members, and identifying areas for departmental growth.

What traits are looking for?

At the risk of sounding clichéd, the person we hire will have to be a ‘self starter’. This isn’t because you’ll be left to sink or swim (you won’t, we promise) but there will be many occasions when you just need to get on with stuff. We work in structured chaos, and that needs to be something that you’re happy and comfortable with. Similarly, and this probably goes without saying, we tend to go for people that have something a little different about them, whether it’s an interest, a skill or whatever. After all, we’re called The Barbarian Group and want to work with fun, interesting people who we can learn from.  In addition we are looking for: 

  • 2 – 5 years experience in web and/or marketing analytics.
  • Expert understanding of analytics tracking implementation including web, ecommerce, and mobile apps using tools such as Google Analytics and Adobe SiteCatalyst.
  • Proven ability to develop A/B and and multivariate testing plans that result in improved performance of owned properties.
  • Experience with tag management systems such as Google Tag Manager or Tealium
  • Fluency with social listening tools and methodologies such as Crimson Hexagon, Sysomos, Synthesio and Infegy.
  • Understanding of qualitative and quantitative research methodologies such as survey design, respondent recruitment, and syndicated research analysis.
